The final use of the product determines which method will be used to bend a pipe or tube. Some methods distort the material at the bend and mar the finish. Others give precision bends while leaving the finish unmarked.
Ram-Style Bending
This is the simplest and cheapest method to bend pipe. It deforms the pipe or tube at the bend. It is acceptable for conduit and other light-gauge products.
Rotary Draw Bending
This style is used to keep deformation at a minimum and maintain a constant diameter. It is used for various vehicle applications, including roll bars, chassis and trailer frames. It is also used for handrails and other ornamental uses.
Mandrel Bending
This method is used for tubing and piping that require bending with the least amount of distortion while keeping the finish unmarred. Exhaust pipes and other precision bending is done using this method.
Ring Roll Bending
Ring roll bending is used to give the bend a large radius. Anything that uses a large circumference will be made using this process.
Hand Bending
This method is usually used on pipe and tubing where high precision and good finish aren't required.
