Build furniture and other structures for your garden.
If you often keep items that others might consider junk, you may be able to repurpose those items in other projects around the yard, perhaps even in your garden. What you make will depend on what is on hand when you need something. Old lattice and nails from other projects will come in handy, as will wood scraps. Sometimes there will be use for a thick wood stump, and sturdy wooden pallets always come in handy. Keep anything that you can envision a use for.
Instructions
1. Use old pipe sections as planters. Soak the pipe before planting, so that it will not dry out quickly. Pack a section of old pipe full of soil and plant flowers at both ends. Use the same types of flowers at each end, or two different types or colors of flower. Place this planter at the corner of an herb garden, or outside the shed door on a plant stand.
2. Assemble a simple raised bed using brick, cement blocks or wood. Build a low bed with bricks that are lined up to create four sides. Position the bricks into a circle or triangle for something different. Do the same with cement blocks, hole sides facing up. The area within the holes of each block are used for planting flowers or another small plant.
Nail four pieces of scrap wood together to form a wooden planter. Use hinges at each corner if they are available.
3. Build a trellis from a section of chain link fence. Nail four pieces of wood together to form a frame. Screw the piece of chain link fence to the frame. Place this structure along a brick wall.
Use an old section of lattice as an alternative to the chain link fence. Frame it and screw the frame to an old, long wooden planter to create an container garden.
4. Use branches 4 to 6 feet long and twine to make a pea or bean pole. Create a tripod that is wide at the bottom and closed at the top, like the shape of a tepee. Tie the branches together at the top with twine, and be sure that the bottoms of each branch go into the ground an inch or two so that the structure is sturdy. Using twine again, you can tie shorter branches between the poles for more growing area.
Tips Warnings
Use a salvaged wooden wheel as a base for an herb garden. Plant a different type of herb in each section of the wheel.
