Paw prints can add charm and personality to many different crafts.
Paw prints are a fun and playful way to decorate cards, gift bags, decorative murals, costumes and many other craft projects. Paw prints can be added to crafts using a stamp, allowing the crafter to quickly decorate an object with a multitude of paw prints, or can be created one at a time and added to a craft project as a finishing touch or accent. Homemade crafts make wonderful gifts; homemade crafts with paw prints included are bound to bring a smile to a pet enthusiast.
Instructions
Paw Print Stamp
1. Draw a paw print on a piece of poster board or use a computer to print an image of a paw print and tape the printout to a piece of poster board. Simple paw print designs generally consist of a circle, which forms the palm of the paw and three to five smaller circles, depending on the detail of the paw print, along the top arc, which form the toes of the paw.
2. Cut out the poster board paw pieces, following the drawn or printed template.
3. Arrange the poster board paw pieces on a sheet of craft foam. Use a pencil to trace the paw pieces once they are arranged as desired.
4. Cut out the craft foam paw pieces.
5. Glue the craft foam paw pieces, in paw formation, to one side of a block of wood. The block of wood should be about the same size as the paw print design. For example, if your paw print is 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches long, the block of wood should be about 4 inches wide and 4 inches long. The depth of the block of wood should be thick enough to grasp comfortably but thin enough to be handled easily. Allow the glue to dry.
6. Press the craft foam decorated side of the block of wood onto an ink pad. Press the inked craft foam onto a piece of paper, plastic, glass, metal or cloth to create a paw print.
Pom-Pom Paw Print
7. Glue one large pom-pom to a piece of paper or other flat surface. This is the palm of the paw print.
8. Glue three to five smaller pom-poms, about half the size of the first pom-pom, along the top arc of the first pom-pom. Three pom-poms can be used for very basic, cartoon-like paw prints while five pom-poms, with a slight gap between number four and five, can be used for more realistic paw prints. These are the toes of the paw print.
9. Add a drop of glue between between each toe and the palm of the paw print for added durability and stability.
10. Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 for each paw print.
Tips Warnings
If attaching pom-pom paw prints to fabric, trying sewing the pom-poms to the fabric rather than using glue. Sand the wooden block and seal it with wood finish if desired, before gluing the craft foam to it to avoid splinters while using the stamp.
