It is only fitting to include recipes and foodie favorites from the wild, wild West when you are throwing a party where wide brimmed hats, boots and bandannas are the required attire. Whip up a batch cowgirl treats that will have the hungry wranglers screaming, Yippee! instead of tying you up to be drawn and quartered.
Cowgirl Appetizers
Think Western when you think appetizers. Arrange a platter of tortilla chips in an upside down cowboy hat along with a variety of dips, from salsa to warm, melted cheese dip. Make mini pigs-in-a-blanket and star shaped Sheriff cookies with yellow frosting. Spread out cowgirl-decorated paper plates, cups and napkins for the party attendees to fill their plates with the goodies.
Main Course
Depending on how picky your cowgirls' palates are, your main course can be anything from easy franks and beans washed down with cactus juice (clear soda and green food coloring) and root beer to hamburgers and potato salad and or fried-boneless chicken with buttermilk biscuits. As a side note, the cactus juice and root beer should be served with any meal you select, as it will be a huge hit.
Cowgirl Dessert
Play up the haystack theme by making your own version, dessert style. These are made by melting butterscotch chips and then pouring the mixture over a bowl of chow mein noodles and peanuts. Then, drop tablespoon sized stacks onto parchment paper to cool. The end result will be lots of mini-haystacks for the cowgirls to enjoy. If you are throwing a cowgirl birthday party, make or purchase a cake in the shape of a cowgirl boot, hat or cactus. Be sure to add tiny plastic horses, hats, spurs and other themed items to the top of the cake.
