Troubleshoot Moen Kitchen Faucets

The cartridge in your Moen faucet handle contains all the valves and seals needed to operate the faucet. When problems occur it usually begins there. Checking this part solves issues with leaking, lower flow rates and temperature issues. If you have experience taking things apart, this task will take about half an hour.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water supply to the faucet.

2. Remove the faucet's handle by taking out the small screw in the base of the handle with an Allen wrench and sliding it off the faucet. Take off the dome by twisting it counterclockwise.

3. Tighten the retaining nut (the round nut on top of the cartridge) with large pliers by turning it clockwise. Reassemble the faucet by replacing the dome and handle and turn on the water supply. Test the faucet: If the leak remains, continue troubleshooting.

4. Take off the handle and dome again. Remove the cartridge nut with large pliers. Slide the cartridge out of the faucet and clean it thoroughly with plain water using another sink. Insert the cartridge and reassemble the faucet. Turn the water on and test the faucet. Check for leaks. If the problem remains, continue troubleshooting.

5. Remove the handle, dome and cartridge nut and slide the old cartridge out. Install a new cartridge from a Moen repair kit. Assemble the faucet by replacing the cartridge nut, dome and handle.
