Remove Underarm Stains & Smells

When your body temperature rises you begin to sweat.


Your underarms are a breeding ground for sweat, bacteria and odor. Even using anti-perspirant and deodorant will not stop your underarms from staining your clothing. Not only are these stains difficult to remove, but they also create an unpleasant odor that can last for days after the initial contact. Underarm stains and smells can leave your clothing unbearable and the fabric stiff in the armpit area. Fortunately, you can remove the underarm stains and smells with a few common household items.


Instructions


Remove Underarm Stains and Smells from White Shirts


1. Turn the shirt inside out. Lay the shirt flat on a level location with the underarm stains facing upward.


2. Fill a small container with equal parts cool water and 12 percent hydrogen peroxide.


3. Dip a sponge in the mixture. Blot the underarm stain with the sponge until the area is thoroughly saturated.


4. Allow the mixture to soak into the stain for 30 minutes


5. Launder the white shirt in cool water as you normally would. Examine the shirt. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process with a higher ratio of 12 percent hydrogen peroxide to water.


Remove Underarm Stains and Smells from Colored Shirts


6. Turn the shirt inside out. Lay the shirt flat on a level location with the underarm stains facing upward.


7. Mix 1/2 cup of cool water with 1 tbsp. of white vinegar in a small container.


8. Saturate a sponge in the mixture. Blot the underarm stains with the mixture until the stain is thoroughly saturated.


9. Allow the mixture to soak into the stain for 30 minutes.


10. Launder the colored shirt in cool water as you normally would. If the stain persists, repeat the process.


Tips Warnings


Bleach can be added to the washing machine if removing underarm stains on white clothing.


Rub a pre-wash stain treatment on the underarm stain before laundering.


Test the stain removal method on an inconspicuous area of the garment. If damage occurs, discontinue use.


Do not wash the garment in hot water or place it in the dryer until the stain is completely gone. Heat will set the stain, making it impossible to remove.
