Unscrew Stripped Allen Or Torx Bolts

Torx bolt

Most of us have had the pain of working on a project and stripping out a Torx or Allen head bolt. It can be very frustrating if you're dealing with softer or cheaply made bolts and screws. They have a tendency to strip out very easily if over tightened. One of the best ways to extract the bolt is to use a hacksaw blade. First find a high quality hacksaw blade that is rated for use with metal. You can pick one up at any hardware store.

Instructions

1. Use penetrating spray to soak the bolt and thread area before attempting any removal effort.

2. Use the saw blade to cut a strait notch that will allow a flat head screwdriver to unscrew the troubled Torx or Allen bolt. Make sure not to cut into the bolt all the way down to the surface that the bolt is secured down to because half of the bolt head may twist off while extracting, making it all the more difficult.

3. If your space is too limited or you cannot put enough leverage on the screwdriver to turn the bolt, use a ratchet in combination with a bit adapter and flat head screwdriver bit. Instead of using a have saw to notch a groove into the bolt head, you can also try using a pair of appropriated sized vise grips, too.
