Pegasus Faucet Installation

Install a new Pegasus faucet for a quick bathroom update.

One quick and easy way to update your bathroom is to replace the faucets. Pegasus is a brand that offers many high-quality faucet designs. Do-it-yourself homeowners may find this to be a satisfying, cost-saving project. The installation is not difficult and with the correct tools and supplies, you can successfully complete this project in a matter of hours.

Instructions

1. Remove all items from underneath the sink to allow ample room for maneuvering. Lay down old towels to catch any water that may drip during the installation process.

2. Clean the top of the sink with mild soap and water. For stubborn mineral build-up, use a non-metallic scouring pad and a mild cleaning agent. Rinse the area and wipe it dry with a towel.

3. Inspect the inside of the sink's drain hole and the drain hole opening under the sink. Clean it free of debris with soap and water. Dry the sink completely with a towel.

4. Hold the new faucet upside down and slide the base plate onto the two threaded shanks. Run a bead of silicone caulk around the underneath side of the plate. Align the threaded shanks with the holes on the top of the sink. Lower it with the base plate onto the top of the sink.

5. Tighten the mounting nuts under the sink by hand. Check to ensure the faucet is centered and finish tightening the nuts with a basin wrench. Attach the two water supply lines using the basin wrench. Be sure not to over tighten. Wipe away any caulking that may have oozed out from under the base plate with a damp rag.

6. Unscrew and remove the flange from the pop-up assembly. Unscrew the locking nut at the top of the pop-up assembly and pull down the rubber gasket. Wrap Teflon tape around the top of the pop-up body. Apply plumber's putty to the underneath side of the flange.

7. Put the flange into the sink's drain hole. Insert the pop-up assembly up through the drain hole and screw the flange down onto the threads of the assembly. Make sure the pivot rod opening faces the back wall. Apply Teflon paste to the rubber gasket and tighten the locking nut of the assembly with channel pliers. Clean any excess plumber's putty that may have oozed out from around the flange with a wet rag.

8. Unscrew the nut from the rear of the assembly; slide it and the seal onto the pivot rod. Slide the pop-up stopper down into the drain. Insert the pivot rod into the assembly and through the opening in the stopper. Secure the pivot rod by sliding the seal and the nut back to the assembly and tighten it by hand.

9. Take the metal clip and slide one end onto the pivot rod. Insert the pivot rod into a hole in the lift rod strap and then slide the other end of the clip onto the pivot rod to secure it.

10. Slide the lift rod from the faucet down into the top of the lift rod strap. Tighten the retraining nut by hand. Test the stopper by moving the lift rod up and down.

11. Remove the aerator from the faucet and turn the water back on. Turn on the cold tap and allow it run for one minute. Turn on the hot water tap and allow it to run for one minute. Inspect all the connections for leaks and tighten where necessary. Reinstall the aerator.
