Fun Charity Gifts

Charity stores often have acoustic and electric guitars for sale.

Charity gifts can range from those given as donations to those bought through charities for friends. Whatever the method, charity gifts manage to fund the company and directly help the people affected by the charity's work. Charity gifts are a great idea for younger kids because the presents are still fun and enjoyable, but you can also teach the kids about charity giving and the benefits their presents will bring.

Adopting an Animal

Animal-affecting charities like The National Wildlife Federation and the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) offer adoption packages that let recipients officially sponsor an endangered animal. These gifts are ideal for kids, and what makes the adoptions more fun are the sponsorship packages that can be given to the adopter. Some packages contain plush toys of the adopted animals along with certificates and stories apparently written by the animals themselves. Other packages contain badges and other fun activities like sticker books and coloring pads. Popular animals for adoption include giraffes, penguins, dolphins, koalas, monkeys and elephants.

Charity-giving Initiatives

Buy a goat and donate it to a charity on behalf of the recipient.

Charity-giving initiatives cut out the middle man. Instead of buying a present from the company and it using that money for aid, you can directly buy a gift of aid that will be sent immediately to those who need it. What makes the gift that little bit more special is that you can buy it on behalf of someone else and show them documented evidence of how they are helping. Oxfam is one charity organization that runs an Unwrapped initiative where you can buy gardening tools, building materials and stationery, all on the behalf of the gift's recipient. The recipient will also receive a little card showing her donation and a box of fair-trade chocolates. Make the gift more fun by buying something a little out of the ordinary, for example, some livestock like a camel or cow. Greenpeace, the WWF and WaterAid all run similar initiatives.

Charity Store Gifts

Charity stores sell donated gifts (new and second-hand) that can range from clothing to board games to electronics. The key to picking out something fun is to find a gift your recipient would want anyway -- just because the store is a charity shop does not mean the products are old or out-of-date. Instead, you can actually find a lot of useful and modern gifts on the shelves. Video games and consoles are often handed in, which make great gifts for kids, and for the musical types there are usually a few acoustic or electric guitars in store. Other fun gifts include board games, toys and fancy-dress costumes.

Charity T-shirts

Charity T-shirts are a great gift because they are usually printed with fun or funny messages, and a percentage of the sale goes towards the charity it's printed for. Seventeen magazine gives a great example of a girl's shirt that reads: Kiss me, I don't smoke! The shirt is pink with a large kissing lips motif on the front, and 10 percent of the proceeds goes towards the American Cancer Society. The Sendai earthquake and tsunami, which occurred in Japan on March 2011, also has a series of charity T-shirts that are fun, simple and stylish -- a percentage of the proceeds goes towards the Pray For Japan tsunami relief fund.
