Whirlpool Range Instructions
Whirlpool, the world's largest manufacturer of home appliances, has a reputation for providing homeowners with well-made, long-lasting appliances at affordable prices. Whirlpool manufactures both gas and electric ranges that are easy to use, maintain and enjoy. Depending on where you purchased your Whirlpool range, it may have been marketed under the Maytag, Amana, Estate, Jenn-Air or KitchenAid brand names.
Use
Whirlpool ranges are so user-friendly that learning to use your Whirlpool gas or electric range should take just minutes. First, learn to operate the cooktop on your gas or electric range. On a gas range, push in the control knob and turn it counterclockwise to Lite. This will ignite the selected burner. Once ignited, turn the knob clockwise to adjust the flame between the Lo and Hi settings. The cooktop on an electric range operates in much the same way. Just push in the control knobs, then turn them clockwise between Hi and Lo.
Both gas and electric Whirlpool ranges also feature easy-to-use electronic oven controls. To use an oven feature, press the button for that feature, then use the + and - buttons to increase and decrease number values. For example, press the Bake button and then use the + and - buttons to set the oven to the desired temperature. Press the Start button to start heating the oven. When you're finished using the oven, press the Cancel/Off button. Use the same process to set the clock, timer, warmer and other oven features.
Care and Maintenance
Proper care and maintenance will help keep your Whirlpool gas or electric range functioning for many years. An important part of care and maintenance is keeping your range as clean as possible. A clean range will heat much more evenly than a dirty one. Wipe your stove clean, as needed, to keep it free from dirt and other grime. Use a soft cloth dampened with a solution of warm water and mild soap to wipe down the surface of your Whirlpool range. Do not use abrasive scrubbing pads to clean your range; they may scratch the porcelain enamel surface. Many Whirlpool range models feature a handy steam clean feature. To use the steam clean feature, first remove the oven racks and set aside. Pour 10 ounces of water on the floor of your Whirlpool oven, then press the Steam Clean button. Press Start to begin the cleaning cycle and Cancel/Off at the end of the cycle.
Other Whirlpool oven models feature a similar self-clean feature. To access the self-cleaning feature, press the Self Clean button. Use the + and - buttons to set the length of the self-cleaning cycle. When the cycle is finished and the oven has cooled, use a damp cloth to remove the ash on the floor of the oven.
Safety Tips
Always follow proper safety precautions when operating your Whirlpool range. This includes allowing the surface of the range to cool before touching it. Both Whirlpool gas and electric ranges come with an anti-tip bracket that can be installed to minimize the risk of the appliance tipping over. With the anti-tip bracket installed, the range should not tip under normal circumstances, though it may still tip if excessive pressure is exerted on an open oven door. Do not store flammable liquids near your Whirlpool gas range. Do not attempt to operate your Whirlpool gas range if you smell gas. Leave your home immediately and go to a neighbor's home to call your gas supplier or the fire department.
