hitachi-plasma-tv-went-black-and-on-off-button

Hitachi Plasma TV went black and on off button flashs green

Hello all, I purchased a Hitachi Plasma TV in 2007 and had this problem once while under warranty 2 years after purchase. It was repaired under the warranty but now unfortunately it has happened again. All of a sudden the screen went black and stayed like that with sound for a few minutes then came back on. Went off again after about 10 minutes and now wont come back on and the green on/off button is flashing green twice then stops then flashes twice again and this continues. I have tried turning it off at the wall and turning it on again but the tv just wont go on and the green light flashes again twice then off again and repeats. Im just not sure if its worth getting it fixed or can i get my son who is an electrician to fix it. If so what does he need to replace. or what is the problem? Thanks for your help Unless it's a big, fancy, expensive TV I would say toss it since it's 5 years old. Just checking online it looks like the two blink code is a X-sus board error, basically something internal that would take a trained technician to diagnose and repair. If it's a normal TV the repair bill may be close to the cost of buying a new one. I just searched for the circuit board and depending on your TV the board costs about $100-$180 US Dollars depending on the model. Figure that a repair shop will charge probably double that for the part, plus their time to diagnose that that is the problem. I agree. The cost of tvs have dropped a lot over 5 years. You did not say what size the tv was, but I would guess you could replace it now for half the price. Thank you both for your information. The TV is a 50 plasma HD and with extended warranty was $3700 AU and i have researched a new TV for $2700 AU 60 and a smart TV, not sure what that is but am told bigger and better. Now the problem is what do i do with the 50 its too heavy to just toss and no one will want a second hand TV that isnt working. I actually might give the TV repair guys who fixed it last time a call and see how much it cost when it was under warranty that may give me an idea of the costs now and they may be able to tell me what to do with it if i decide to go new TV. Im sure they will probably say what you have already said Pilot Dane, least i will be a little prepared for thier answer now Thanks again for your information appreciate it You are up in the price range where it may make sense to repair it. If it were a cheapo 40 it would be disposable now it almost becomes a question of are you looking for an excuse to buy a new TV?. I'm almost willing to put money on it that it's a capacitor or two that is leaking or partly blown. My LG did this after a brown out. Cost me $4.56CND to repair myself (I am a trained electronic technician, but not specifically in TVs). In many cases, it's a cap that is discontinued because they where bad (which was my case). A substitute can be found most cases. I would not suggest repairing yourself unless you have experience with electronics. These TVs are heavy to work with and do carry a high shock potential. If you have a friend that is experienced with electronics, it could be a very inexpensive repair. If you try fixing it yourself leave the TV unplugged for a day before you open the case. This will allow time for the capacitors to self discharge so there is no shock hazard, but with a TV that expensive I would take it to a professional experienced at repairing flat screens. Once again thank you all for your input. I have decided that i will get a techician in TVs to check it out re advice from you on the shock hazard and hopefully they will let me know what the problem is, the call out fee is only $75 AU which is minimal to find out, from there i will decide if its worth the cost of fixing. Greatly appreciate all the input though it has helped me decide what to do. Cheers
