A Typical Stick of RAM
If a computer's performance is lagging, one of the remedies is to upgrade the RAM. The more RAM a computer has, the more programs it can run without lagging. Changing the RAM in PCs is the same regardless of brand, though the placement of the RAM can differ depending on the model of the motherboard. The upgrade RAM must be compatible with the motherboard in order for it to work properly.
Instructions
1. Unplug the computer to reduce the risk of electrical shock, then open the side panel to access the inside of the system.
2. Remove the existing RAM by moving the clips at the top and bottom of the memory slot away and down from the RAM. The RAM is located towards the upper right side of most motherboards, usually to the right of the fan/heatsink unit.
3. Insert the RAM into the memory slot, and push down simultaneously on the top and bottom of the RAM to clip it into place. The RAM can only be inserted one way, so if it does not fit, rotate it and try again.
4. Close the side panel of the case.
Tips Warnings
Touch a piece of metal to discharge any potentially damaging static electricity.
