Side Effects Of Citrimax

Tape measure

Citrimax is a plant extract that originates from the Garcina cambogia fruit in South Africa. Citrimax contains hydroxycitric acid, which promotes metabolism. Citrimax is used as a weight loss supplement, and while it is derived from natural sources, it is not without potential side effects.

Increase of Serum Serotonin

According to a study that InterHealth USA, the manufacturer of Citrimax and Super Citrimax, conducted and published on the firm's website, Super Citrimax, a more potent form of the original Citrimax, can potentially increase serum serotonin. Serum serotonin is a neuro-transmitter that affects appetite control, mood and sleep. An increase in serum serotonin can boost mood, increase pain tolerance, reduce carbohydrate cravings and improve the quality of sleep.

General Side Effects

Some consumers have reported experiencing nausea, stomach discomfort or pain, intestinal discomfort or pain, or headaches after taking products containing hydroxycitric acid. Additionally, the Food and Drug Administration has warned consumers to stop using Hydroxycut, another weight loss supplement, due to the excessive amount of hydroxycitric acid found in the product. The warning and product recall came after the FDA received nearly two dozen reports of jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, the need for a liver transplant and other serious health problems.

Allergic Reactions

As with any medication, Citrimax has the possibility of triggering an allergic reaction. Its prime component, hydroxycitric acid, can cause reactions such as itching, hives, rashes, swelling of the mouth or throat, wheezing and difficulty breathing.

Complications

As of December 2009, there are no known serious side effects or risks associated with taking Citrimax. However, studies conducted on rats have shown that high doses of hydroxycitric acid caused damage and shrinkage of the testicles. It is not known if the same holds true for humans.

Precautions

Citrimax has not been evaluated or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. All medications have the potential to cause side effects or serious interactions, so you should always speak with your physician before taking Citrimax. Furthermore, you should speak to your physician before starting any kind of diet.
