how-tell-if-my-monitor-is-hdcp-compliant

To combat music video and movie piracy, the RIAA, MPAA and other organizations help sponsor the development of HDCP, or High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. HDCP uses a special algorithm to prevent HD-resolution content from displaying on screens that do not support HD resolutions natively. Since most copying or pirating of videos occurs on PCs, this helps prevent users without newer monitors from capturing HD videos from a TV or the Web. Most newer LCD and LED monitors support HDCP, while virtually all older CRTs do not. If you want to check to see if your monitor supports HDCP, you can do so with a couple of mouse clicks.

Instructions

1. Power on your computer. Log in to Windows with your username and password if prompted. Allow the Windows desktop and all startup applications to load.

2. Right-click an open area of the Windows desktop. Click Screen Resolution on the fly-out menu.

3. Click the drop-down list box labeled Resolution. Locate the 1920 x 1080 resolution setting and select it. Click the OK button. If the monitor accepts the new resolution and Windows displays correctly, your monitor supports HDCP resolution requirements. If the monitor does not display correctly or there is not an 1920 x 1080 option available, your monitor does not support the HDCP standard.
