GE Potscrubber Dishwasher Not Cleaning Well

I have a GE Potscrubber 1430 Dishwasher that is really not performing very well any more. The thing is several years old and it could just be time for a new one. But with good dishwashers running any where from several hundred $ into the low 4 figures, I'm going to try to avoid that if possible. I wanted to see if there's any routine maintenance or troubleshooting I can do. We've already tried to 'clean up or act' by not letting dishes get caked up with food and making sure the machine is loaded without obstructing the jets. Any other suggestions anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Poor cleaning is often caused by an insufficient amount of water filling the dishwasher, insufficient draining, a worn pump impellor and the water being too cold. The drain solenoid on the GE's often fails as well as the sump screen gets plugged up with gook. Check the drainage, the water fill and the heater and sump and the temperature of the incoming water. Look for help here: dishwasher repair service help Maytag GE Kenmore Whirlpool Inlgis Frigidaire, leaking, washing, draining problems, pump assembly break downs Can you post the model#? Let us know what you find. The feed back helps others. Thanks. DaddyJohn - thanks for your reply. Even before I saw your reply I got motivated and curious and started looking into some things. About the only thing I was able to do is take the sump screen out and give it a really good cleaning - and there was a fair amount of gook to be cleaned. I'm not sure that I have the ability or know check to see if the pump and the drain solenoid are functioning properly. Anyway I did some test runs after and things seemed better. I put in some dishes that had seroius crud and they came out fine. Another problem I have is that the Mrs. loads the thing up to the gills. I think the overloading REALLY reduces the performance. Thanks It sounds like maybe you got it. Thanks for the feedback. Overloading will increase the likelihood of poor cleaning.
