Ultrasound technician schools prepare their graduates to become ultrasound technicians or ultrasonographers/sonographers to work with ultrasound imaging equipment and perform ultrasound procedures for patients. To become ultrasound technicians, applicants must have at least a two-year associate's degree from a technician school that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Graduates of these programs can register as professional ultrasonographers with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).

University of Missouri
The University of Missouri's School of Health Professions offers both a Bachelor (BHS) and a Master of Health Science (MHS) in Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound (DMU). University of Missouri is the only institution in the United States to offer the MHS. DMU applicants must meet the physical requirement of maintaining extended arm positions and prolonged application of pressure during ultrasound procedures. In addition, applicants must meet ample hearing and vision requirements to accurately process audible and visual Doppler.
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey offers four educational options for students of various educational and professional backgrounds. The Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography option is designed for prior graduates of accredited two-year health programs. The Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Technologies (BSAHT) option is only offered to bachelor degree holders in biology. A second Bachelor of Science option is offered to bachelor degree holders (BA or BS) from an accredited U.S. institution. A joint-program with Thomas Edison State College, the Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Sciences (BSMIS) program is offered to holders of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography certificate who have passed their national board examinations.
SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY
SUNY Downstate Medical Center's Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program prides itself of being the first ultrasound program to offer a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduates of this program are qualified to take the professional credentialing examinations offered by ARDMS. This program is open to holders of Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)-accredited associate and bachelor degrees with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher and a minimum grade of "C" in selected courses.
