Radiology degree programs lead to a career as a radiology technician or technologist. Radiology technicians and technologist operate diagnostic imaging equipment that helps physicians and medical personnel diagnose and treat patients. Technicians operate X-ray equipment and technologists operate more advanced diagnostic equipment such as CT and MRI machines. In Pennsylvania, community colleges, private post-secondary institutions and universities offer radiology programs. According to Indeed.com, the average yearly salary for radiology technicians is $50,000 and the average salary for radiology technologist is $54,000, as of July 2010.
Pennsylvania College of Technology
Located in Williamsport in central Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania College of Technology is a public technical college and is a special mission affiliate of Penn State University. Penn College offers an associate degree program in radiography that has accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRC-ERT). Students in this two-year program will learn a variety of radiography concepts on different imaging machines. Some of the coursework includes radiographic anatomy and positioning, principles of radiographic exposure, radiographic equipment and maintenance, radiographic nursing procedures and radiation protection. Graduates will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (AART) examination to obtain their radiography license.

Lancaster General College of Nursing & Health Sciences is a private, independent four-year college that offers associate and bachelor's degree programs in health care. The college is in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, about an hour west of Philadelphia. LGCNH offers a wide range of health care programs including an associate degree program in radiography. This two-year, 68 credit program holds accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Holy Family University
Holy Family University is a private, Catholic university located just outside of downtown Philadelphia near the Northeast Philadelphia Airport. Holy Family offers an associate and bachelor's degree program in radiologic science. The associate degree program is 20 months in length and requires 73 credits to graduate. Some of the classes include radiographic imaging, radiographic procedures, advanced imaging, radiographic pathology and general education courses. Graduates of the associate degree program will qualify to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam. The bachelor's degree program is a more extensive program and applicants must have current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The program is 124 credits and takes about two years to complete, if you already completed an associate degree program to obtain license. The bachelor's program offers two concentrations, computed tomography and mammography. Coursework varies depending on which concentration you choose. The bachelor's degree program, designed for working professionals, has part time and full time classes.
