Xray Technician Programs In Maryland

Employment of radiologic technologists is expected to increase faster than the average occupation through 2018.


Employment of radiologic technologists (or x-ray technicians) is expected to increase by 17 percent through 2018, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2010. The state of Maryland is home to Johns Hopkins Hospital, the National Institutes of Health, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. X-ray technician programs in Maryland are offered throughout the state.


The Community College of Baltimore County


The Community College of Baltimore County offers a two-year x-ray technician program that is recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The program includes coursework in general education as well as radiography. After completing the program, students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are qualified to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam.

Prince George's County Community College


Prince George's Community College offers a two-year radiography program that culminates in an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. During the two-year program, students earn 41 credit hours in radiography and 27 credit hours in general studies. Program graduates are eligible to take the ARRT exam for certification.

Sanford-Brown's Landover campus offers a four-year Bachelor of Science degree program in x-ray technology where students learn about professional practice, image analysis and other aspects of x-ray technology. Allegany College of Maryland offers a two-year program culminating in an AAS degree in Radiologic Technology. Anne Arundel Community College


Anne Arundel Community College offers a 70-credit program that is focused entirely on radiographic coursework. After completion of the two-year program, graduates earn an Associate of Applied Sciences degree and are eligible to take the ARRT exam to become certified as a radiologic technologist. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Additionally, as of 2010, the program is designated as a Health Manpower Shortage Program. This means that some residents of Maryland may be eligible for in-county tuition rates.

The College of Southern Maryland offers a two-year program culminating in an AAS degree in Radiography. The 68-credit program includes coursework in English composition, interpersonal communication and math in addition to radiography. Graduates are prepared to sit for the ARRT exam, which certifies and licenses the student as a radiographer in the state of Maryland.
