Employment of radiologic technologists (or x-ray technicians) is expected to increase by 17 percent through 2018, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook for 2010. The state of Maryland is home to Johns Hopkins Hospital, the National Institutes of Health, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center. X-ray technician programs in Maryland are offered throughout the state.

The Community College of Baltimore County offers a two-year x-ray technician program that is recognized by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The program includes coursework in general education as well as radiography. After completing the program, students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are qualified to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam.

Anne Arundel Community College
Anne Arundel Community College offers a 70-credit program that is focused entirely on radiographic coursework. After completion of the two-year program, graduates earn an Associate of Applied Sciences degree and are eligible to take the ARRT exam to become certified as a radiologic technologist. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Additionally, as of 2010, the program is designated as a Health Manpower Shortage Program. This means that some residents of Maryland may be eligible for in-county tuition rates.
