Radiology technicians are an important part of a medical team. They help diagnose injuries and prepare patients for treatment through the use of X-ray technology. The career requires a knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology in addition to being well-informed about the equipment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job prospects for the field are expected to improve by 17 percent between 2008 and 2018. Several colleges in Texas offer training for people interested in radiology.
Lone Star College
Lone Star College offers medical radiologic technology classes at two Texas campuses: CyFair and Montgomery. The associate of applied science degree can be achieved in two years and consists of 72 credits of study. Topics of instruction include basic radiographic procedures, introduction to sectional anatomy and radiographic pathology. Lone Star College affords students clinical experience starting in the second semester. Applicants should have completed a course in introduction to anatomy and physiology before entering the program.

Houston Community College
Houston Community College offers an associate of science degree to its radiology students. The two-year program consists of 71 units, including both classroom instruction and clinical field experience. Radiation biology and protection, essentials of medical terminology and principles of radiographic imaging are among course topics. Clinical rotations begin in the program's first semester. Applicants to Houston Community College's radiology program must show proof of five prerequisite courses, including college algebra and introduction to radiology.

Academy of Health Care Professionals
Academy of Health Care Professionals offers a limited medical radiologic technologist program at four Texas campuses. The courses do not lead to a degree, but the program is designed to prepare graduates to take the Texas state licensing exam. Instruction is offered in the areas of radiographic biology, radiographic positioning and imaging equipment and maintenance. In addition to attending classroom sessions, all students complete a clinical externship at a local medical facility.
