Planning A Health Fair

When it comes to planning a health fair, organization and patience is the best approach. Depending on the size and extent of the fair, there can be a lot involved. But with the right people on board, it can go off without a hitch.

Instructions

1. Jot down some target audiences. Write down a list of prospective places to present at. Some examples are corporations, small businesses, schools, colleges, churches, health food stores, libraries and community centers. Write down their names, phone numbers and addresses.

2. Draw up an outline of what you want the health fair to be about. Create timelines, topics and material lists for literature. Also right down price points, unless it is going to be non-profit.

3. Assemble your team. Determine who you might want to be involved. This can be doctors, nurses, personal trainers, well coaches, dietitians, holistic nutritionists, naturopaths or yoga instructors. Contact everyone and send them an outline of the program so they can see where they come into the mix and what role they will play.

4. Gather your literature and materials. All health fairs have handouts and stuff that they give away for free to all that attend. These are usually flyers and pamphlets on health-related topics, key chains, pens, pencils and sport bottles. Literature can be found at hospitals, health facilities and health food stores.

5. Organize interactive activities. Get together with the presenters and organize free services during the health fair such as blood pressure screenings, body fat percentages, cholesterol readings, heights, weights and risk factor assessments. You can also incorporate fitness demonstrations from the yoga instructors and personal trainers.

6. Make contact. Now that all the leg is done and the program is prepared, make the actual contact with the prospects. If you are reaching a small business or corporation, ask for the head of the human resources department or wellness team.

7. Put up flyers. Advertising is an important part of health fairs. If it is going to be a public health fair, post flyers at any location that allows them such as grocery stores, libraries and the actual location itself. If it is going to be a health fair at a business, distribute them internally through the human resources department or wellness team.
