Choose an organization that is important to you and close to your heart. Be careful where you donate because you want to make sure that your money and items are going to the right people. 3. Now that you know what you are donating and where, the next thing to do is decide how you want to donate. If it is goods then you can simply take the items to the place in which you have chosen or ship them to the address. If you have chosen to donate money, then you should contact the organization to speak with someone, or look online to pick how you want to donate your funds. You will likely have the option to donate online, over the phone or via mail.
4. Once you have made your donation, obtain a tax receipt so that you can claim it on your income tax for the year. As long as you do not receive any goods or services in return and you donate to an approved non-profit organization, then your donation is tax deductible.
