Make A Bra Hat

While it might seem counterintuitive, you can make a truly one-of-a-kind hat out of a bra.

Inventive ideas often arise when someone redefines an item's purpose. Take a bra, for example. Create a bra hat to find a unique use for a traditional garment. This is one very public way to express your solidarity with breast cancer survivors or a bold way to express your femininity and celebration of women. It also allows you to reuse and repurpose an older item that you might otherwise have discarded.

Instructions

1. Wrap a bra around the head of your mannequin, clipping the hooks and pinning the fabric together with safety pins. Cut away the excess fabric that would usually go around the person's ribcage.

2. Snip away the elastic straps. Cut an 18-inch piece of pipe cleaner and glue it from the V section of the bra, between the two cups, to the back of the bra, where the hooks are. This will create a vertical arch over the head of the dummy. Repeat this process at the far edges of the right and left cup. When finished, there are a total of three arches extending over the bra.

3. Cut three or four 12-inch pieces of pipe cleaner and glue them horizontally across the sides of the bra, spacing them out so that when finished it looks like you have a checkerboard grid.

4. Take a thick feather boa and weave it through the grid you've created. Adjust the boa so that the ends are tucked in and it's puffy and robust, so you can't see the grid around it.
