A carnival booth
Decoration is truly the factor that sets carnival booths apart from one another. It is easy to tell when a booth has been thrown together at the last minute because almost no thought has been put into its design. Create a plan for your decoration that depends on your carnival's theme, the time of year and the supplies that you already have in your possession. Does this Spark an idea?
Traditional Carnival
There is a certain style of decorating associated with the traditional carnival booth. Start with bright and bold primary colors of red, yellow and blue painted in either solid colors or stripes. Purchase streamers in the same or different colors and hang them high up on the walls and above the front of each booth. Tape balloons to the entryway of each booth and on the ceiling of your booth. Paint pictures of clowns on the walls or on poster boards. Along with some traditional carnival theme music, this will give your booth the feel of a carnival.
Classy Carnival
You can give your booth a more elegant carnival feel if it is part of a company fundraiser or something similar. Decorate the walls with posters and old advertisements of carnivals from their heyday. Have every square inch of the walls covered by one of these posters. This will give your booth a professional touch without needing to paint or create much of anything. Give your booth as many old carnival attributes as possible. Find an old-looking metal cup to scoop popcorn with and toy prizes that you'd find in a retro merchandise shop. The object of this design is for a person to feel like they are truly in the world of an old carnival.
Animal Theme
Create a forest or jungle animal theme for your booth. Paint lush trees on the inside and the outside of the board, adding the occasional tropical bird throughout the leaves. Paint animals that fit with any games you might host at the booth like Duck Pond, Feed the Lion or Mouse Holes. If your game is Feed the Lion, paint some zebras, tigers and hippos onto the booth. If you do not feel like painting, use animal cardboard cutouts in and around the booth or use animal stickers. Make your prizes animal related as well, with stuffed bears and other forest or jungle creatures.
Water Wonderland
If your carnival is taking place during the hottest time of the year, one cool idea is to make your booth water themed. Paint the side and inside of the booth with images of the beach, an ocean wave or a big swimming pool. If you have a connection to some water, you can hook up a few sprinklers to the top of your booth and have them shoot out a small mist for all participants and passersby. This booth design is especially effective if the booth is water-related like with a dunking tank or a refreshments stand. You may even wish to set up a water game outside, but make sure to only let kids play on the game if they are supervised by their parents.
