Can Tumors Cause Elbow Pain

Although bone tumors of the elbow are rare, they can cause uncomfortable or severe pain in the elbow joint.

Symptoms

The most common symptom of a bone tumor located at the elbow is pain and swelling, although some patients report no symptoms at all. Some bone tumors also cause the bone structure to weaken and fracture.

Detection

To determine whether the patient has a bone tumor, and bone cancer, X-ray testing is done. Doctors will also use nuclear medicine bone scanning to help detect bone tumors.

Treatment

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used in treatment, as well as medication to prevent bone loss. Surgery is also used in order to salvage the limb from amputation.

Other Causes of Elbow Pain

An elbow tumor is fairly rare; other causes of elbow pain include arthritis, bursitis, fractures, tendinitis and injury to the arm.

Home Remedies For Elbow Pain

Heatpacks can help soothe pain, while ice packs will reduce inflation. If your doctor has detected a tumor ask him about specific medication that can ease the pain.
