Different Kinds of Cancer


In 2005, 10,701,000 people in the U.S. were living with cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. The most common forms of cancer, states the National Cancer Institute, are breast, lung, skin, colon and prostate.


Breast Cancer


The American Cancer Society has concluded that there are 192,370 new cases of breast cancer each year and 40,170 deaths. Aside from skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women in the U.S.


Lung Cancer


According to the American Lung Association, approximately 400,000 Americans die from lung cancer each year. More than 35 million people are living with lung cancer in the U.S., and lung cancer is also responsible for one out of six deaths.


Skin Cancer


The Skin Cancer Foundation states that cancer is the most common form of cancer in the U.S., and more than a million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed annually.


Colon Cancer


According to the American Cancer Society, there are 106,100 new cases of colon cancer each year. The National Cancer Institute has found that 49,420 people die from colon cancer annually.


Prostate Cancer


The National Cancer Institute states that there are 192,280 new cases of prostate cancer each year and 27,360 deaths.
