Learner'S Permit Test Questions In Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, or PennDOT, oversees the licensing of drivers in the state. To obtain a learner's permit, drivers must be at least 16 years old and pass a three-part multiple-choice exam. Applicants for a learner's permit also must pass an eye exam and submit a certified copy of a physical exam conducted by a doctor, nurse practitioner or chiropractor.

Signs, Signals and Pavement Markings

The first section of questions on the learner's permit test relates to road signs, signals and pavement markings on Pennsylvania roadways. Applicants must identify the types of road signs shown. The signals portion involves questions such as what green, yellow and red traffic signals represent. The pavement markings portion asks questions about roadway markings and what they permit or forbid. Sample questions for this section of the test are available through the first link in the Resources section of this article.

Learning to Drive

The learning-to-drive section of the learner's permit test has four parts. The first includes questions about seat belt use, how mirrors and seats should be adjusted, and when wearing glasses is required. The second part has questions about the effects of alcohol and drugs on driving, how lack of sleep can affect driving and avoid being distracted while driving. The third part has questions about everyday driving skills, such as negotiating intersections, observing speed limits and passing other vehicles. The fourth part has questions about handling special circumstances, such has negotiate work zones and what to do when an emergency vehicle is behind you. Road rage is also covered in this part. Sample questions for this section are available through the second link in the Resources section.

Driving Record Information

The third section of questions deals with a motorist's driving record, including how punitive points are accumulated for traffic infractions and when a license can be suspended or revoked. Questions also involve the penalties for driving without insurance, fleeing police and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Applicants also are asked what to do if they are involved in an accident. Sample questions for this section are available through the third link in the Resources section.
