Continue Your Education As A Radiology Technologist

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requires that all certified radiology technicians earn 24 credits of continuing education every two years. All 24 of those credits must come from category A, a category approved by a Recognized Continuing Education Evaluation Mechanism (RCEEM) such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT). Continuing education ensures that radiology technicians keep up to date with technological changes and adjustments to the national health care system and stay on top of their profession. Registered Technologists are randomly audited by the ARRT, and must be able to prove that they meet the continuing education requirements.

Instructions

1. Determine the dates of your continuing education biennium dates, the two-year period during which you must accrue 24 credits. This biennium begins on the first day of your birth month and finishes two years later, on the last day of the month prior to your birth month.

2. Select continuing education activities or courses that are RCEEM-approved, making sure that they are within their expiration date. Most activities expire one year after their initial evaluation. Credits can be obtained through online activities. See the resources section for websites offering continuing education credit courses.

3. Ensure that your continuing education topics apply to your area of practice and that you have not completed the course in the past. Topics should relate to the radiologic sciences or patient care within the field.

4. Complete your selected courses. Directed reading quizzes must be passed with a score of 75 percent or more in order to receive credit. Any other continuing education activities must be completed to the satisfaction of the issuing body.

5. You will receive documentation that you have achieved continuing education credit for each completed activity. Keep this documentation as proof of your participation and fill out a continuing education report form, which is provided by the ARRT at the end of each reporting period.
