Recreational Grants

Recreational grants are available to spruce up parks.

Federal and state government programs offer grants for recreational projects ranging from the development of new recreation areas to the restoration or conservation of existing parks suffering from physical deterioration, decay, vandalism, neglect and disinvestment. These grants are usually open for application every year. Eligible applicants range from other government agencies to nonprofit organizations.

Oregon Recreational Trails Grant

The Oregon Recreational Trails Grant under the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Grants Programs is a national grant offered yearly to nonprofit organizations, cities, counties, state agencies, federal government agencies and other government entities. It provides funds for recreational trail-related projects benefiting activities such as hiking, running, off-road motorcycling and all-terrain vehicle riding.

Examples of funded projects include the building of trail bridges and installing directional signs, restoring existing trails, bridges and signage, developing and rehabilitating trailhead facilities, acquiring land needed for recreational projects and developing water trails.

Environmental Protection Fund (EPF)

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation offers the annual state-funded program called the Environmental Protection Fund (EPF) to preserve, rehabilitate or restore lands, waters and structures in parks, and recreation and conservation areas. It also extends its program for the development of playgrounds, courts, rinks, community gardens and facilities used for swimming, boating, picnicking, hunting, fishing, camping and many other recreational activities.

Funding priorities for this recreational grant are based on the extent of a project site's need for immediate rehabilitation; how the project protects, enhances or interprets natural, cultural or historic resources; and the degree to which the project can serve more people, especially those with low incomes or otherwise disadvantaged or underserved.
