Having regular dentist visits is an important step in maintaining dental health.
As of October 2010, fewer than 50 percent of Americans have dental insurance. Facing high costs for dental care, the uninsured are turning to less-costly alternative providers. There are a variety of resources in New Hampshire for free or low-cost dental care, depending on your status. With a little research, you can find the right place for your own dental-care needs.
Instructions
1. Check with your local homeless shelter. Shelters often offer free health services in-house. Two shelters in Manchester that offer dental services are New Horizons and Emily's Place at the YWCA. Consult the Homeless Shelter Directory online for a complete list of New Hampshire shelters. Those that don't offer free dental services in-house may be able to refer you to a local clinic or health program that does.
2. Identify your local Community Health Center. Community Health Centers offer free or low-cost health services regardless of your insurance status or ability to pay. Consult the National Association of Community Health Centers website to find one near you.
3. Check to see if your area has a mobile health clinic. Mobile clinics often rotate between different shelter locations or social services agencies to reach a wider population. One mobile health clinic in New Hampshire is the Mobile Community Health Team Project at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester. Consult the website for the Catholic Medical Center to see a schedule of services offered and a list of locations.
4. Check with your local church or other place of worship. Many faith groups can connect people to affordable health services in their area.
5. Consult the online guide to free medical clinics in New Hampshire. Click on the town or city nearest to you to connect with area services.
