Kinds of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer occurs when the cells in the breast abnormally grow, divide and create new cells. These extra cells form a mass known as a tumor, and malignant tumors are cancer. There are various kinds of breast cancer.
Ductal Carcinoma
Ductal carcinoma is the most common kind of breast cancer. This cancer starts in the cells that line the milk ducts.
Lobular Carcinoma
Lobular carcinoma is a kind of breast cancer that starts in the lobes of the breast. These lobes, commonly called lobules, are the milk glands.
Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is an uncommon kind of breast cancer that typically doesn't involve any tumors or lumps. The skin of the breast feels warm and looks red, thick and pitted.
Paget Disease of the Nipple
This rare kind of breast cancer begins in the breast ducts and spreads out to the nipple's skin and the areola, which is the dark circle around the nipple. The skin turns red, scaly and crusty and might ooze, bleed, burn or itch.
Mucinous Carcinoma
Mucinous carcinoma, sometimes called colloid carcinoma, is a rare kind of breast cancer formed by mucus-producing cancerous cells. The prognosis for this kind of breast cancer is typically better than for other types of breast cancer.
Angiosarcoma
Angiosarcoma is a very rare form of breast cancer that forms in the lining of the lymph vessels or the blood vessels. Angiosarcoma of the breast is sometimes a complication of radiation treatment.
