Many high-technology inventions were developed in Israel.
Situated by the Mediterranean Sea in Western Asia, Israel is a country slightly larger than New Jersey. It was formally created in 1948, after the end of the Second World War. High technology equipment is among Israel's leading exports, thus reflecting the country's prolific contributions in the fields of research, technology and medicine. Israeli inventions include medical diagnosis apparatus, special radars, genetically modified vegetables and movement rehabilitation devices.
Medical Diagnosis Equipment
Israel is the pioneer of many medical diagnosis modern equipment. These devices include digitized mammography which enhance sub-millimeter details; software systems for non-fluoroscopic intrabody navigation and 3-D mapping in the diagnosis of heart conditions; and a combined electro-optical laser and conventional optical instrument for the diagnosis of ocular pathologies, in the market since 1996. Also, an laboratory apparatus that can sort chromosomes, cells or tissues by colors, thus reflecting genetic abnormalities, responsible for hereditary conditions; and diagnostic equipment for sleep disturbances.
Ultra Wide Band Radar
Ultra Wide Band Radar is a device used primarily in military and search and rescue operations. The Israeli company Camero developed the apparatus that enables its users to view across various types of walls, except solid metal ones. The company's chief executive officer said in a interview to the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" that "the company has already sold the system to various armies and police forces around the world."
Genetically Modified Tomatoes
Antonella, a variety of tomato that does't need to be refrigerated, was created in Israel, using genetic engineering techniques. The Antonella tomato retains its firmness, flavor and aroma, but it does not begin to rot even after a week at room temperature during the hot Israeli summer, claims Israel High-Tech & Investment Report. Tomatoes are among the most consumed vegetable in Israel.
ReWalk
ReWalk is a 35-pound device worn outside of clothing that can help paraplegics to stand and walk. Amit Goffer, who lost his body movements after a car crash, is the inventor of this apparatus, which went on sale in January 2011. However, as ReWalk users need their hands and shoulders to operate the device and support crutches, the invention is not aimed at quadriplegics, such as Goffer himself.
