Get Financial Assistance for Medical and Prescription Costs
Medical and prescription costs can put a real dent in your wallet. They make up a large percentage of some household bills. Without appropriate health insurance, it's hard to pay the cost for medical treatment. Low-income families are unable to afford the cost of medical insurance which also hurts them when someone in the family may take an unexpected visit to the emergency room or doctor. The tips below offer some advice on how it could be possible to sign up for additional help to pay for medical and prescription costs.
Instructions
1. Contact your local community action agencies or government offices. Some states offer public aid where you can sign up for medical cards that pay a large portion of medical costs depending on your income. Sometimes there are small co-pays that you might have to pay for prescriptions or at the doctor's office. There are also programs available for seniors and disabled that allow them to cut costs on medical expenses.
2. Speak with Social Security if you are disabled or if you are a senior over 65 who receives social security. Medicare pays for some medical costs as well. Talk to your representative to find out how much medicare can pay.
3. Talk to the financial department at your local hospital. If you recently have had surgery or have been an in or outpatient at the hospital. Some hospitals offer financial aid programs that will pay a portion of your medical costs depending on your family's income.
4. Make an appointment with a loan representative at your local bank. Find out how you might be able to get a low interest loan to pay on large medical bills. Once you have paid medical bills with your loan, your monthly payments to the bank may be smaller than what you were paying to the hospitals and doctors.
5. Call upon your minister at your local church. Speak with him/her about your financial problems and see if there are any funds available for the church to assist you. Also, if you have a large amount that is owed for major surgeries or treatments, the church could help you arrange a fundraiser to help pay for medical costs too.
