Finance A Handicap Van

Finance a Handicap Van

The use of a handicap van is commonly a handicapped person's only means of transportation. Transportation is a major part of independence, which lends itself to both mental and emotional health. However, the cost of a handicap van is usually over $20,000, making it nearly impossible for many families to purchase such a vehicle without financing. Thankfully, financing options and grants exist to assist families in purchasing a handicap van.

Instructions

1. Apply for an auto loan with a bank or credit union in your local area. Most auto loans do not have exclusions preventing them from being used to finance a handicap van.

2. Apply for an auto loan with a patient-focused group that offers financing with affordable payments for handicap vans, such as PFS Patient Funding. Unlike banks, these organizations offer funding specifically for handicap vehicles.

3. Apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Grants are sporadically available for people with a variety of disabilities. In many cases, funds can be used to purchase a handicap van.

4. Apply for a grant from The Knights of Columbus or the M.O.R.G.A.N. Project. Both of these organizations offer grants to assist families in purchasing a handicap van to be used to transport a disabled child.

5. Search the Internet to see if there are organizations dedicated to the specific type of medical condition that you have. Many major medical conditions, diseases and disorders have organizations dedicated to assisting people with these issues. Contact the organization that is dedicated to assisting people with your medical condition and ask about assistance in financing a handicap van.
