Make Donations To A Charity

What is the best way for you to donate?

There are so many people, organizations and living things in this world that need help. It could be money, food, clothes, personal items, hair or even vehicles that you would like to give to charity. Donating to a charity can be a wonderful and selfless thing to do, but there are several decisions to make before you decide where and donate.

Instructions

Donate to Charity

1. The first thing you need to do is decide what or how much you would like to donate. If you want to make a financial contribution then all you need is your checkbook, cash or a credit card. If it is items you are looking to donate, you must decide what you want to give. There are so many items you can donate, anything from clothes, food, personal items or furniture. Clean out your closets; that old coat you don't wear anymore could really help keep someone warm in the winter.

2. The next thing to decide is where you would like to make a donation. If it is clothing, you could donate to a shelter or goodwill. Food could also go to a shelter or be sent to a local orphanage in your area. Women's shelters appreciate receiving personal items or toiletries. Choose an organization that is important to you and close to your heart. Be careful where you donate because you want to make sure that your money and items are going to the right people. It is always safe to donate to an approved non-profit organization.

3. Now that you know what you are donating and where, the next thing to do is decide how you want to donate. If it is goods then you can simply take the items to the place in which you have chosen or ship them to the address. If you have chosen to donate money, then you should contact the organization to speak with someone, or look online to pick how you want to donate your funds. You will likely have the option to donate online, over the phone or via mail.

4. Once you have made your donation, obtain a tax receipt so that you can claim it on your income tax for the year. As long as you do not receive any goods or services in return and you donate to an approved non-profit organization, then your donation is tax deductible.
