Join Fire & Rescue In Louisville Kentucky

The Louisville Fire Department was founded in 1858 and is part of the city government of Louisville, Kentucky. Louisville firefighters work a three-day rotation with 24 hours on and 48 hours off. The starting salary for Louisville firefighters is $40,399 per year with salary increases each year. The department also offers paid vacation, health insurance and tuition reimbursement and provides a deferred compensation savings plan, life insurance and a pension. The department has an open application period once a year, in early Summer, and announces the application period at the Louisville, Kentucky government website.


Instructions


1. Visit the Louisville, Kentucky government website for the open applications dates. If the application period is not open, sign up for the Firefighter Applicant contact list.


2. Complete your application and return it to the Louisville Metro Civil Service Board with your authorization for record check, high school diploma, transcripts or GED, a birth certificate or birth registration, and a passport or driver's license. If you are former military, you also need your DD214 and two military release forms.


3. Study the "Alarm Applicant Study Guide," provided by the Louisville Human Resources department, prior to taking your written exam. Take and pass the written exam.


4. Review the "Physical Fitness Preparation Guidelines and Physical Ability Test Overview" and train for your physical ability test. Take and pass the physical ability test.


5. Meet with a panel appointed by the fire chief. The panel interview will determine if you are suitable for employment.


6. Accept the conditional offer of employment. Your employment is contingent upon passing a polygraph, a background check, a physical examination and other steps as required by the Louisville Fire Department.


7. Enter the 26-week training program upon acceptance into the Firefighter program.
