Schools in Georgia provide options for students who want to work as X-ray technicians.
The Georgia Labor Market Explorer reports that the demand for radiologic technologists or X-ray technicians will increase by 22 percent through 2016 in Georgia. The state has schools that offer certificates and degrees in radiography designed to prepare students for licensing in the field through a combination of classroom instruction and clinical experience. The schools for X-ray technicians include public and private institutions.
Institute of Allied Health Professions
Located on the campus of St. Joseph Hospital, the Institute of Allied Health Professions is a private medical training school in Atlanta. The school's radiography certificate program is accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and requires two years of full-time study to complete. Approximately 70 percent of the program is spent in clinical settings, primarily at an on-campus hospital. In addition to X-ray technology, students also learn to perform computerized tomography (CT scans) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRIs). Private lending programs are available to help students with the cost of tuition. Job placement assistance is available for all students.

Armstrong Atlantic State University
Founded in 1935, Armstrong Atlantic State University is a Savannah-based public institution with more than 6,100 undergraduate students, as of April 2010. The university offers a Bachelor of Science degree in radiologic science with a concentration of radiography. All students learn X-ray technology and then select a second area of specialization from CT scans, MRIs or mammography. Accredited by the ARRT, the program includes course work in subjects outside the major, such as medical communication skills, physics, quality control, leadership and management. Four clinical rotations are required at area medical centers. The radiologic science department offers specialized scholarships for radiography students, and the university participates in state and federal financial aid programs. Georgia residents receive reduced tuition rates.

Ogeechee Technical College
Ogeechee Technical College is a public, two-year school in Statesboro. The college grants a technical certificate in radiologic technology through a two-year program that is accredited by the ARRT. Students must pass a criminal background check and drug test before receiving admission to the program. Among the courses required for the program are algebra, computer science, pathology and radiation biology and protection. Seven clinical rotations are included in the curriculum. State and federal financial aid and institutional scholarships are offered for eligible students, and Georgia residents receive reduced tuition rates. The Career Services department offers assistance with resume writing, interview preparation and job research.
