Herbal Remedies For Fibroid Tumors

Fibroid tumors grow in and around the womb of about half of all women of childbearing age. Most are benign and many are small and without symptoms. But for many other women, fibroid tumors can be the source of serious pain. Large tumors can cause heavy, painful bleeding during periods and spotting between periods. They can also cause anemia and difficulty breathing. If left untreated, fibroids continue to increase in size and in the severity of the symptoms they cause.

Herbal Remedies

There are many herbal remedies for fibroid tumors that have been shown to offer significant relief of symptoms and to shrink the tumors naturally. Combinations of herbs have proven most effective.

Doctors who deal in natural medicine, naturopaths, can prescribe herbal remedies. Some herbs commonly used include: chasteberry, red raspberry, motherwort, Siberian ginseng, red clover, goldenseal, chancia, licorice root, black cohosh, dong quai, dandelion, milk thistle, burdock, vitex and yellow dock root.

Buy these herbs in capsule or tincture form or prepare a tea using any of these herbs or a combination of two or more. Add a small handful of each herb to a pot of boiling water. Steep for 5 to 10 minutes and drink three times a day.

To help shrink fibroids, add these supplements to your daily regimen: 1,000 to 2,000 mg of vitamin C, 400 mcg of selenium and 30 mg of zinc.

Holistic treatments

Many women find relief from fibroid tumor symptoms through acupuncture and Chinese medicine, which treat the cause, rather than the symptoms. Since blood flowing to and from the womb has been impeded resulting in the tumors, these treatments are used to balance that energy or blood flow as well as address imbalances in the liver and spleen, allowing them to detoxify the body.

Proper diet and exercise are other important factors in the treatment of fibroid tumors since both help the body rid itself of toxins and encourage proper ovulation. Eating more greens and wheat grass has been proven beneficial, as are adding blackstrap molasses, which helps reduce heavy bleeding, and apple cider vinegar, which helps cleanse the body, to your diet. Whole grains have proven beneficial in reducing fibroid size. In general, organic foods are preferred because some pesticides may encourage the formation of fibroids. Minimizing the consumption of fatty foods such as red meat and maximizing the intake of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and soy products is recommended.

Using a warm castor oil pack on your stomach will help shrink fobroids. To make a pack, soak a clean cloth in castor oil, then place it on the abdomen. Cover the cloth with plastic wrap, then another clean cloth. Add a hot water bottle or heating pad on top. Leave on for about an hour.

A topical application of poke root oil, rubbed on the stomach twice a day -- morning and evening -- may help with discomfort. Hot sitz baths will increase circulation in the pelvis, relax muscles and relieve discomfort. Add a few drops of rosemary, lavender or juniper oils to the bath to stimulate pelvic circulation.

Before making any dietary changes or adding supplements, consult a health care specialist. Do not take any herbal supplements or begin any alternative treatments if you are pregnant or might be pregnant without consulting a physician.
