Radiologic technology programs prepare students to work in the imaging sciences and perform diagnostic imaging examinations. These exams may include X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. Online programs may be beneficial for individuals who have professional or personal obligations that prevent them from attending courses on campus. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), radiologic technologists earned a median salary of $53,240 per year as of 2009.
Siena Heights University
Siena Heights University has campuses throughout the state of Michigan, including cities such as Battle Creek, Jackson, Benton Harbor, Lansing and Detroit. The school offers an online Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in radiologic technology. Applicants to the program must have completed an associate degree degree in radiologic technology, be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and have two years experience in the field. Students take online classes in eight week increments, and communication between teachers and students take place through chat rooms, e-mail and discussion boards.
University of Louisiana at Monroe
The University of Louisiana at Monroe offers an online Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology for current registered ARRT professionals. ARRT registration offers students up to 54 hours of credit toward their graduation. The online program requires students to complete general education requirements and core radiologic technology courses. While students are also required to complete 15 credits of electives, the school recommends that they select courses that will strengthen their career in the imaging sciences. Requirements of the course include a computer with high speed Internet access, current operating systems, and DVD/CD capabilities.
Oregon Institute of Technology
The Oregon Institute of Technology has campuses in Portland, Klamath Falls and La Grande, and offers an online bachelor's degree program in radiologic science. The program is designed for current professionals in the field to help them advance their career. Courses in the program include cross-sectional anatomy, health care management, radiographic pathology, advanced quality assurance and total quality in health care. Students are not required to come to campus for any classes, and lessons take place through tutorials, streaming video and readings.
Northeast Community College
Northeast Community College is located in Norfolk, Nebraska, and offers an Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology online in cooperation with Southeast Community College. Courses in the program include applied physics in allied health, medical terminology, and human anatomy and physiology. Students in the program are also required to complete an internship at a local medical facility. Graduates of the program are qualified to take the ARRT examination and become a registered radiologic technologist.
