Side Effects of Yasmin Oral Contraceptive
Yasmin is a low-dose birth control pill and comes in a pack of 28 pills. The first 21 pills contain equal doses of estrogen and progesterone, and the last seven pills are placebos. As with all birth control pills, though, Yasmin has its fair share of side effects that differ for each individual.
Nausea
One of the most commonly experienced side effects of Yasmin is nausea and vomiting. If this persists, you will need to have your doctor prescribe a different pill.
Irregular Periods
Yasmin can cause spotting to occur between periods, as well as missed periods, but this is not necessarily a reason to switch to a different pill.
Breast Tenderness
Some women experience severe breast tenderness, due to the hormonal effects of the pills. It may take a few months, but for many women their body adjusts and this side effect decreases or goes away completely.
Migraine Headaches
Frequent migraine headaches can be another side effect associated with Yasmin. It may take some time for your body to adjust to the pill, but once it does, this side effect should cease.
Abdominal Cramping
Mild to severe abdominal cramping may be experienced while taking Yasmin. As long as the cramping isn't severe, you should be able to continue taking Yasmin. However, if the cramping worsens, you should notify your doctor immediately.
