Types of Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Cosmetic surgery improves or enhances your appearance. Most people opt for cosmetic surgery to remove fat, to correct signs of aging or to reshape part of the body. The Consumer Guide to Plastic Surgery describes various popular cosmetic procedures.
Liposuction
Liposuction vacuums fat deposits under your chin, on your abdomen or hips and wherever you have unwanted fat, reshaping your body and giving you a thinner appearance.
Facelift
Facelifts tighten the skin on your face, remove excess or sagging skin and reduce wrinkles. Types include brow lift, neck lift and blepharoplasty (eyelid repair). All procedures require some incisions on your face.
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty (nose repair) reshapes the nose through removal of cartilage and bone to make your nose smaller and narrower or to remove bumps or other irregularities.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck removes fat and excess sagging muscles from your abdomen. After tightening and stitching your abdominal muscles into place your belly button is repositioned in the appropriate place.
Breast Augmentation/Lift
Breast implants can increase breast size in young women and restore sagging breasts associated with aging or breastfeeding. Surgery may include a breast lift, which removes extra skin and tissue and repositions your nipple.
