Job Description of an Instrument Technician


An instrument technician works in the medical, health care or pharmaceutical industries, and repairs all equipment needed to perform medical testing, diagnoses, treatment and research.


Educational Requirements


Education includes at least an associate's degree in biomedical equipment technology or engineering, and most employers prefer a bachelor's degree.


Training and Certification


Training and certification for this profession can be obtained through professional associations such as Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), which offers certifications in three speciality certifications related to these occupations.


Responsibilities


These occupations maintain, adjust, calibrate and repair a wide range of equipment in medical and pharmaceutical industries. This includes scheduled routine maintenance of equipment to ensure properly functioning equipment is available at all times.


Job Outlook
