Breast lifts have become such a common surgery that many of the procedures have been perfected for accuracy and proper healing. However, there are certain complications to be aware of when considering breast lift surgery.
Infection
You may acquire an infection near the surgical openings. Signs of infection include redness, swelling, discharge, fever and continued pain.
Allergic Reaction
Some patients may have an allergic reaction to the tape, suture material, medicines or anesthesia used during the procedure. Allergic reactions may involve rashes, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, among others.
Asymmetry
Your breasts may be slightly asymmetrical after the breast lift surgery. Each person's body heals differently, making it impossible to predict exactly how the body will respond to surgery.
Loss of Feeling
It is common to experience a loss of sensitivity or numbness in the breasts or around the nipple. The loss of sensation is usually temporary, and feeling should return within a few weeks or months.
Hematoma
A hematoma occurs when liquid or blood collects in a body cavity; this can cause a painful infection. Speak to your doctor immediately if you notice an unusual change in the color of your skin.
Wound Separation
Your wound or sutures may re-open during the healing process, opening your body up to infection. If this occurs, keep the area very clean and contact your doctor immediately.
