Donating of cars is one of the most common ways in Illinois, and several other states, to help disabled people. There are several different charity organizations you can donate your car to that will use the car or its proceeds to help disabled people.
Opportunity Cars
Opportunity Cars helps families who have a very low income or no income coming into their household. They help by providing a vehicle that will assist each household to get employment and travel to that place every day. This is a national organization with locations across the United States. In Illinois, there are two locations that are affiliated with Opportunity Cars. They are Willow Creek Community Church in Elgin, and Ways to Work in Moline.
Charity Cars
Charity Cars, also known as FreeCharityCars.com and 1-800-Charity-Cars, accepts car donations and then provides them to needy families. All cars donated qualify for a tax deduction. The cars are placed with families that are medically needy, that have suffered a natural disaster or that are among the working poor. This is a national organization that provides services throughout Illinois.
Other Foundations
There are several other foundations in the state of Illinois that accept car donations. They use the proceeds from the car donations to help the local people with medical costs and getting needed medical treatment. A few of the programs in Illinois are Alzheimer's Association of Illinois, Arthritis Foundation, Cancer Hope Network and American Diabetes Association.
Research Foundations
There are two organizations in the Illinois area that accept car donations to support medical research, as well as to give to those in medical need. They are the Cancer Research Institute and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. These are national institutions with local Illinois offices.
