Dental education is available in Macon.
According to the website Dentist.net, Georgia has just one school of dentistry, and it is located in Augusta. Several Georgia schools, however, offer dental education in the form of dental hygiene and dental assistant programs, and one university offers a pre-dentistry program that prepares students for medical college. In Macon, one university and two public technical colleges provide dental training.

The college, located in Macon, offers dental hygiene study. The program, which requires 124 credit hours, requires two years of study and results in a Dental Hygiene Associate of Applied Science degree. The program provides the skills and knowledge necessary to become a dental hygienist. Students learn to examine the head, neck and oral areas for signs of disease. They also learn to educate patients about their oral hygiene. Applicants must be 17 years old or older and have a high school diploma or a GED. To be selected for the program, students must have a 3.0 grade point average. Students are selected for the program during the spring semester.

Middle Georgia Technical College
Located 20 miles southwest of Macon in Warner Robins, Middle Georgia Tech offers two dental programs. Both are two-year programs. The dental assisting program is a diploma program that prepares students for careers in dental offices, including orthodontics and periodontics specialties. Graduates receive a diploma and are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board exam. Students also receive certification in Radiation Health and Safety, which is required by the Georgia State Board of Dentistry. The dental hygiene program provides students with an Associate's degree. Both programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

Mercer University
This four-year liberal arts university in Macon offers a pre-dental track to interested students. The school was founded in 1871. According to the school's handbook on pre-dentistry, this track helps to prepare students for dental school and offers advice specifically targeted to students who need to know the requirements and protocols for their career paths.
