Virginia College in Austin, Texas, offers an Associate of Science degree program in surgical technology. This program includes a general education component that serves to complement the college's surgical technology training. The college places course emphasis on the proper application of sterile surgical techniques and technology used in modern operating procedures. Along with classroom studies, the college offers hands-on training and requires its students to have externship experiences in order to round out their practical abilities. In order to earn the diploma, students must finish 94 quarter-credit hours, which can take from one to two years.

The San Antonio campus of Brown Mackie College offers an associate degree program for surgical technology. The program is specifically designed to provide students with knowledge and technical skills about surgical technology. The program curriculum concentrates on the study of general surgical procedures, specialized procedures, medical terminology and the principles of anesthesia, physiology and anatomy. There is also a laboratory-based course on surgical technology techniques. The emphasis of the school is on immediate employment of students following graduation as entry-level surgical technicians.

High-Tech Institute
The High-Tech Institute in Irving offers a diploma in surgical technology. The Institute teaches the fundamentals of anatomy and physiology of the body systems. The program also provides hand-on training for surgical equipment and supplies, sterilization and setting up instruments. Each course that the program offers stands alone as a unit of study, so no prerequisite training or courses are required to enroll. A student can enter the program at the beginning of any course, at any time of year. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing Certification Examination to become a nationally accredited surgical technician.
