How Much Does A Tv Anchor Make

The salaries of television news anchors vary depending on the market and the anchor's experience and popularity with viewers as determined by ratings. There are 259 TV markets in the U.S.

Small Markets

Television anchors in small markets typically are paid anywhere $23,000 to $30,000 per year. Many anchors who work in markets not in the top 50 also act as directors of their department (news or sports).

Mid to Large Markets

Anchors in medium-sized markets, such as those in the Nos. 25 through 50 range, tend to make a salary between $35,000 and $45,000 per year. Rarely do news anchors in medium-sized markets double as news director.

Large Markets

TV anchors who work in top 10 markets can make from $200,000 to $400,000 per year, perhaps more if they remain with the same station for a long time.

Network

Network anchors can be paid around $1 million per year and more depending on job length and of course, ratings.

Side Work

The popularity afforded by being on TV allows many anchors to earn extra income on the side as spokespeople for different companies. Anchors can earn as much as $20,000 per year as a spokesperson.
