Residents of Maryland have a variety of options when choosing a school that offers X-ray tech degrees.
In order to pursue a career as an X-ray technician, an individual must first complete the proper education and licensing requirements. The field is growing, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which estimates a 17 percent increase of employment opportunities by 2018. Residents of Maryland must complete an approved degree program and obtain a license from the state in order to find employment. Luckily, there are a number of colleges in Maryland that offer the degree program.
Community College of Baltimore
The radiography program offered by the Community College of Baltimore prepares students for employment in hospitals, imaging centers and physicians' offices. Students participating in the program full time can complete it in approximately two years; graduates earn an Associate in Applied Science in radiology. In addition to the degree program, the school offers continuing education certificates in CT scans and MRI tests. Students receive training in courses including radiography, patient care, imaging procedures, physics and instrumentation, computed tomography and data acquisition. In addition, students must complete a number of clinical practice experiences. As of the 2010 academic year, tuition costs are $90 per credit hour, with a variety of financial aid opportunities from which to choose.

Montgomery College
Twenty-seven students each year are selected for the Radiologic Technology program offered by Montgomery College, which awards graduates with an Associate of Applied Science. In addition, the Takoma Park Campus of Montgomery College offers a joint program with the College of Notre Dame that allows students to continue their studies with a bachelor's degree of radiologic sciences. Students receive training in the fields of human structure and function, medical terminology, radiology, radiographic positioning, and psychology. Before graduation, students must also complete six clinical practice externships. For the 2010-2011 academic year, students can expect tuition costs of $107 per credit hour. Financial assistance and scholarship programs are available for qualified students.

College of Notre Dame
Individuals looking to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Radiological Science have the opportunity at the College of Notre Dame. Students must complete general education coursework along with the core radiology classes. In addition, each student must complete two out of six clinical practice programs offered by the John Hopkins Hospital. Students may also complete continuing education certificate programs through the school. Fields of study include radiology, patient care, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and nuclear medicine technology. For students entering the 2010-2011 academic year, tuition costs of $28,000 are expected. The school provides financial assistance in the forms of grants, loans and scholarships for students who are eligible.
