Girl Scout Meeting Crafts

The Girl Scout organization has troops in over 145 countries.

Founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA provides young girls with the opportunity to develop their spiritual, physical and mental health. Through various physical activities, crafts and community service projects, Girl Scouts develop leadership and life skills they will carry with them into adulthood. Girl Scout meeting craft projects are an excellent way for Girl Scouts to learn new skills and earn badges.

Seasonal Projects

Holidays are always a timely basis for a Girl Scout meeting craft project. Girl Scouts can craft wreaths out of construction paper handprints and make foam picture ornaments for Christmas, or make their own masks for Halloween. Craft a pilgrim hat out of a paper cup, construction paper and yarn to learn more about and celebrate the tradition of Thanksgiving.

Bead Projects

Handmade beads can be used for a variety of fun and creative craft projects. Start by rolling up clay into small balls. Use a toothpick to poke a hole down the center and allow the clay to dry. Roll different colors together to create unique patterns or paint the beads once they are dry. Use handmade beads to make friendship bracelets and necklaces. Smaller beads can be used to make the beaded daisy bracelet (see Resources) or use three wooden beads to make the Girl Scout necklace (see Resources).

Creativity Badge Projects

Girl Scouts can earn creativity badges in a variety of categories through crafting projects. The Sew Simple badge can be earned by learning the basics of sewing and creating a pillow. Earn the Camera Shots badge by taking pictures and compiling them in a scrapbook. Earn the Folk Arts badge by making a papier-mache bowl.

Team-Building Projects

Team-building craft projects teach girls the importance of working together by emphasizing cooperative and interpersonal skills. Because each contribution is vital to the completion of the project, girls learn the importance of teamwork as well their own personal value to the project. For a basic team craft project, create a mural where each girl makes a contribution. For a more advanced team-building project, sew a quilt where each girl designs a square to be added to the quilt.
