Diagnose Drunkorexia

Diagnose Drunkorexia

Drunkorexia is a slang term used to describe the limiting of food intake in order to make more room for alcoholic consumption. Binge drinking among young women has grown over the last few years, and now statistics show that women binge drink as much as young men. Here's notice the signs of drunkorexia.

Instructions

1. Note that drunkorexia is an eating disorder categorized with anorexia and bulimia. Drunkorexia consists of a dangerous blend of behaviors such as self-imposed starvation or binge eating and purging, combined with an alcohol addiction or abuse.

2. Look for signs of drunkorexia, such as skipping dinner on a regular basis. The purpose of skipping meals is to prevent weight gain and to allow more room for drinking later.

3. Watch for a dramatic cutback on calories, especially at dinner time. If you drink on a full stomach, there is less room for the alcohol and you can become uncomfortably full.

4. Acknowledge that 20 percent of the alcohol you consume absorbs directly through the stomach walls and into the bloodstream. The other 80 percent absorbs through the small intestine and into the blood. All organs and tissues such as the brain, heart, liver, pancreas, kidneys and the lungs experience the negative affects of the alcohol within minutes after passing into the blood stream.

5. Limit the amount of food you eat, for the purpose of getting a quicker alcoholic buzz. Spending less money on alcoholic beverages is another reason for drunkorexia in many people.

6. Recognize that you do have a problem with drunkorexia and seek professional help and treatment for both the alcohol addiction and the eating disorder.
