X-ray technicians interact directly with patients to take X-rays needed for patient diagnosis and treatment. X-ray technicians, also known as radiology technicians, are employed in doctor's offices, dental offices and other medical facilities. Completing an accredited program and continual education are required by radiology technicians. Accredited colleges are available in many states across the nation. By 2016 radiology technician employment is expected to increase by 16 percent. In 2011 the average salary base of a radiology technician is $44,000 to $49,000 annually.
Fortis College
Fortis College has Alabama campuses in Mobile and Montgomery. Fortis' Florida campuses are in Orange Park, Largo, Tampa, and Winter Park. Fortis offers a Medical Basic X-ray Technician program. Hand-on training and learning equips students with medical skills to enter various entry-level medical positions. Clinical skills the student is provided include exam setup, electronic records and EKG. Financial aid is available and post-graduation job assistance is offered.
Concorde Career College
Concorde Career College offers a 20-month radiology technology program that results in an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students in the program are instructed in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, radiographic procedures and positioning. Campuses are located in Aurora, Colorado, and Memphis, Tennessee. Concorde participates in federal aid programs that include the Pell Grant, Supplement Education Opportunity Grant and numerous student loans. Concorde also offers career assistance and interview coaching.
MedVance Institute
MedVance Institute offers a radiologic technology program. Campuses are available in Louisiana, Florida and Tennessee. The Louisiana campus awards an Associate in Occupational Studies Degree. The Florida campus awards an Occupational Associate Degree. The degree issued in Tennessee is an Associate of Applied Science. Graduating students are prepared for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists National Certification. Financial aid and career placement are available to all students. A high school diploma, home schooling completion or GED is required to apply. Financial aid is available.
South College
South College in Asheville, North Carolina, has a radiologic technology program that results in an Associate of Applied Science. This is a two-year program that requires application fees, high school diploma or equivalent, a minimum score of 17 on the ACT, a minimum score of 900 on the SAT and prerequisite courses. Along with academic study the program focuses on ethics, communication, critical thinking and reasoning skills. South College participates in federal loan and grant programs for financial aid assistance.
